Hot Tubs

How do I choose which hot tub is right for me?

It's important for us to learn about you and your needs. We ask:

We can then suggest one or two tubs that would be excellent choices.

What is the cost of running a hot tub?

Depending on the tub and the usage pattern, the range is from $15 to $40 a month.

What electrical service is required for a hot tub?*

Requirements vary, depending on the unit.

The 110/120 V units come with a GFCI cord and should not be plugged into a GFCI style outlet (this creates a redundant circuit and causes nuisance tripping.) The hard wired units all require a GFCI service disconnect box which we provide at no additional fee.

* Rix works closely with electricians who are familiar with the requirements. They will make a FREE pre-site visit and estimate for the job.

Do I need special chemicals for the water?

Sanitizers, oxidizers and balancing chems keep your spa water clean and safe. We provide a start up kit consisting of 60 - 90 days worth of supplies and...Rix offers free water testing! You will also enjoy discounts of up to 25% on chemicals during our bi or tri- annual sales events.

When should I shut down the hot tub for the season?

Interestingly enough, more than 50% of our hot tub clients choose to keep their spa operating all year long! Many people who keep the unit operating in the summer, for example, will turn the temp down to 85 - 90°. This feels wonderfully cool when it's really hot outside. It all boils down to your personal preference.

How often should I change the water in my hot tub?

Depending on your usage we recommend that you change your water a minimum of 3 times a year. We offer this service to our customers.

How do I clean my hot tub?

Call Rix for service! However, if you are a do-it-yourself owner, maintenance is a straightforward process.

Can I trade in my hot tub?

Although Rix does not accept trade ins, we will assist in the removal and disposal of your present unit. Note that most people who have an older unit in fine working condition find that it sells quite well through the classifieds.

Is it safe for children to be in a hot tub?

As a rule of thumb, yes. However, check with your pediatrician or family physician. The core body temperature for a child will generally rise quicker than that of an adult so it's important for children to "cool down" in one of the designated cool down seats more often than it is for adults. Children should never be left in a hot tub or swimming pool unattended.

How long is the installation process?

The units are all fully plumbed so "installation" is simply placing the unit in the designated location and having the electrician wire the unit (if it's to be hardwired). Fill it with water then turn it on. Most of the units will come up to set temp within 8 - 12 hours.
